Hiking the Sangre de Cristos

Hi,
I've been trying to gather info on hiking the trails of the area. I will be spending about 9 days in the wilderness. Am an experienced backpacker. Maybe someone local could tell me the most memorable area to hike. I'm not into rock climbing just backpacking.

Western San Luis Valley (San Juan Mountains) are not as steep, and less "peak baggers." Eastern SLV has the big peaks and steeper terrain.

For more "roaming" and less peaks, I would go along the continental divide.

I prefer altitude and above tree line, so I like the area around Crestone.
